There are a large number of career options available to every student in the Haverhill School System.

This page is designed to help you understand career fields and the types of jobs or occupations that fall inside each career field.

Massachusetts, like most states in the US, use the term “career clusters” to categorize occupations with similar requirements and skills. Here is the list of career clusters:

Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources
Architecture & Construction
Arts, A/V Technology & Communications
Business Management & Administration
Education & Training
Finance
Government & Public Administration
Health Science
Hospitality & Tourism
Human Services
Information Technology
Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
Manufacturing
Marketing
Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
Transportation, Distribution & Logistics

The websites on this page provide information on careers and jobs/occupations inside those careers. Each site provides the information in a different format so we suggest that you explore each website.

O*NET OnLine
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, the O*Net OnLine website lists all the career clusters and the specific occupations that fall inside each cluster. It’s a good site to look at the skills, knowledge, and tasks associated with individual occupations inside a career cluster.

US Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook
This site provides information on careers and occupations in a slightly different format. It focuses on “Occupational Groups,” which are similar to career fields. It is a comprehensive website that allows you to search numerous categories.

MassHire Career Information System
This site is designed to provide occupational and educational information to help people make better-informed career and school choices. It is a great site to do a number of things – look at career fields/occupations, assess what career might be good for you, and consider what schools and courses would support your goals. To navigate the site we suggest hitting the “Massachusetts Resident” button, then hit the “High School” button, and then enter “Haverhill” and your zip code. Once inside the site you can establish your own account if you desire.
